The Story Beyond the Stage
At The Library Lagos, we’ve always believed that great experiences go beyond fine dining, live music, or nightlife. At our core, we’re about stories — stories that connect, inspire, and shape culture. That’s why when Naija ReadFest set out to attempt a Guinness World Record for the longest reading marathon by a team, The Library proudly stepped forward as a sponsor.

Why We Chose to Sponsor This Historic Event
The Library isn’t just a restaurant or a club; it’s a cultural hub where intellect, art, and entertainment collide. Sponsoring the Guinness World Record Reading Marathon aligned perfectly with our mission: to celebrate Nigerian creativity, encourage literacy, and highlight the power of storytelling.
By backing this initiative, we helped amplify Nigerian voices and showed the world that Lagos is not only about nightlife and dining, it’s about cultural leadership.
Partnering with Naija ReadFest
For years, Naija ReadFest has championed the reading culture in Nigeria. Their ambitious vision of an 18-day marathon — featuring 79 books by Nigerian authors — was not just a record attempt, but a bold cultural statement.
Our partnership was built on a shared belief: that Nigerian literature deserves the global stage, and that stories have the power to inspire communities.

More Than a Marathon: A Festival of Culture
While the core challenge was endurance reading, the marathon evolved into a multi-sensory festival that went far beyond books. Side attractions brought The Library’s signature touch of dinnertainment to the literary stage:
- Symposiums & Author Sessions – Intimate conversations exploring storytelling, literature, and identity.
- Online Reading Segments – Extending the marathon’s reach, with Nigerians worldwide joining virtually.
- Games Night – Proving that fun and knowledge can coexist effortlessly.
- Live Band Night & Performances – Music infused life into the event, echoing The Library’s vibrant rhythm.
- Cultural Night – A colorful showcase of Nigeria’s traditions, from attire to dance and heritage performances.
Together, these experiences transformed the marathon into a living celebration of Nigerian art and culture.

A Legacy in the Making
The team of 5 Readers achieved 431 hours, 31 minutes, and 25 seconds of continuous reading, surpassing the previous world record. While we await the official Guinness confirmation, the success already lives on as a cultural milestone for Lagos and Nigeria.

The Library’s Ongoing Commitment
Our sponsorship of this Guinness World Record attempt reflects our larger vision: to be more than a place for fine dining, nightlife, and dinnertainment. The Library is where stories; told through food, music, performance, and now literature, come alive.
We are proud to have played a role in this historic journey, and we remain committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen Lagos’ cultural and intellectual identity.
At The Library Lagos, every night tells a story and sometimes, it makes history.
